Indian Land’s Disc Golf Club

There’s no denying it, the growth of Disc Golf has made people take notice. They say it’s the fastest growing sport in the USA. The game is played in about 40 countries around the world. Believe it or not, Disc Golf recently made local news in Charlotte, stating it’s the “Disc Golf Capital of the Country.” It’s even becoming popular right here in Indian Land.

According to the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association), it started back in the late 60’s with a golf disc or Frisbee. Disc Golf is a game in which a flying disc is thrown from an area into a target called the “hole”. The object of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws. Sounds like fun, right? These guys definitely think so.

Our local club is called the “Indian Land Disc Golf Club”, and they meet up on specified days at a park just across the NC border, in Ballantyne. The club was established in 2015, starting off with just a hand full of members. Today, they have grown to 34 members, in hopes of increasing to 50+. Club president, William Craig, is still amazed on how this sport has exploded! Especially in the Charlotte area. The club has a membership and it’s simple. They use a bag tag system and the tag is good for the entire year. The 2017 fee is $5.00, which goes towards tournaments and trophies. The tags are ranked. Most clubs have their own tag system with different rules.

They also launched a local apparel line called Bang Chains. Started in 2015 by William Craig and Tommy Patterson, they sell disc golf merchandise with their logo. They sell towels, hats, & shirts.
The next monthly meet-up will be this Sunday at 2 p.m., at Elon Park, 11425 Ardrey Kell Rd, Charlotte, NC 28277. All are welcome!
